Communication and language:

At Little Owls children are exposed to a rich language environment; they are given many opportunities to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves;  and they are encouraged to speak and listen in a range of situations. Some of the ways we achieve this is be having daily Story Time, regular Show and Tell sessions and providing exciting experiences for the children to talk to each other as well as the adults about.

Physical development:

At Little Owls we believe that Physical development is really important and that children should have the opportunity to get active running around both inside and outside.   As well as daily playground time, we also have specific sports sessions led by an external organisation once a week and go to a local park every Friday morning. Children are encouraged to develop their co-ordination, control and to move in a range of ways playing games such as Duck, Duck, Goose, What Time is it Mr Wolf and dancing around the parachute.

Whilst at Little Owls children are encouraged to develop their fine motor skills ready to start using the three finger tripod grip for writing.

Personal, social and emotional development:

At Little Owls children are encouraged to develop a positive sense of themselves and others; to make special  friendships and to have respect for others; to practise their social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behavior in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.

When children first join us we use our puppets to help them to understand the different emotions and how interact with their peers as well as teachers. In the first term this is usually focused on how to share successfully and then later on how to treat people as well as property with respect and manners.
